Disney Afternoon Tea

Our Favorite Food This Week: Afternoon Tea
Location: Garden View Tea Room – Grand Floridan Resort
Price: $35 + (can add champagne as well)  (children 3-9 $23)

Welcome to this week’s Favorite Food Friday where we share our favorite foods with our friends.  This week we take a stroll over to the Grand Floridian Resort and put up our feet with a cup of tea.   The Garden View Tea room offers afternoon tea daily on the first floor of the Grand Floridian, windows offer views of the garden.  There are a few different selections to choose from – some include cheese plates to start out with and others include champagne to finish with.   We opted for “The Cheshire Tea” which is $50 per person and includes The Traditional Afternoon Tea Experience including a medley of finger sandwiches, traditional scone with accompaniments, and a choice of desert with a selection of fruits and imported cheeses.   After choosing your tea, of which they have a large selection, each guest is given their own tea pot which is covered in comfortable cozy to keep it hot.   Fruit and cheeses were brought out first, followed by the finger sandwiches and then the desert and scone.   There was definitely enough food to fill you up and, yes, you can ask for a to go bag if you aren’t able to finish.   Although a bit on the pricey side, we did enjoy the experience and food.

Our Favorite Food This Week: Braised Beef and Enchilada
Location: ABC Commissary – Hollywood Studios
Price: $15.99

Welcome to this week’s Favorite Food Friday where we share our favorite foods with our friends.  This week we take a look at a relatively new item at ABC Commissary located in Hollywood Studios.   I know everyone is rushing to get to the new Toy Story Land, but if you are hungry and looking for a place to sit down in the AC then ABC Commissary will fit the bill.   They changed their menu around a bit this year, and we recently tried the Braised Beef and Enchilada.    This dish is braised beef served on cilantro slaw with a roasted corn and cheese enchilada topped with fire-roasted chipotle sauce and queso fresco.    The beef just fell apart and tasted great – the other items complemented the beef as well.    This is definitely something to try if you are getting tired of the chicken nuggets and burgers.    I would order it again for sure.

Our Favorite Food This Week: New Menu Items at Frontera Cocina
Location: Frontera Cocina – Disney Springs

Welcome to this week’s Favorite Food Friday where we share our favorite foods with our friends.  This week we headed to Frontera Cocina in Disney Springs to sample some of their new menu items……

Warning! Reading this article while hungry could be hazardous to your health.

Flavorful, unique, delicious…these are just some of the words used to describe the new menu at Frontera Cocina, a restaurant located in Disney Springs and owned by famed Chef Rick Bayless.

Frontera Cocina

Frontera Cocina features a menu full of fresh ingredients and unique spices inspired by central and southern Mexico. The pictures truly don’t do justice to how original and full of flavor each of these items are.

Not only does Chef Bayless use only the freshest ingredients, but he also adds changes to the menu every two to three months, offering a unique perspective from different regions of Mexico. For the next three months Frontera Cocina is featuring foods inspired by Mexico’s Riviera Maya in the Yucatan Peninsula. Lucky me, I was invited to the unveiling of these new items, and was able to hear about the menu and its inspiration directly from Chef Rick Bayless.

When I arrived, I expected to find one or two items I enjoyed. However, there was not one item on the menu I didn’t like.   Let’s look at a couple of my favorite choices.

Start your meal off with the Mango Guacamole, which includes roasted tomatillo, fresh mango, tangy-spicy Tajin, cilantro, and onion. The guacamole comes with their “just made” chips.   This is truly the best guacamole I’ve ever tasted.  It’s like heaven on a chip.

As for the entrees, I loved the spicy grilled Yucatan swordfish which is topped with a mango-orange salsa, achiote-citrus butter, plantain rice, and black bean refritos.   If you want to go a bit spicy, try the Chipotle Shrimp. These are pan-roasted Florida pink shrimp, spicy chipotle salsa, roasted calabacitas, avocado, cotija, cilantro and onions. The Shrimp also come with plantain rice and warm corn tortillas.

Finish your meal with the silky cool mango sorbet with spicy-tangy chamoy drizzle.   Again, I loved the entire new menu so you will not be disappointed with any selection.  Just writing this is making me so hungry.

The food isn’t the only thing impressive at Frontera Cocina. The staff is more than helpful with the menu selections, so take your time reviewing the menu and feel free to ask questions.    I can’t wait to go back with my family and experience this food nirvana again.   If you’re interested in a truly authentic Mexican menu, or just want a meal full of flavor and fresh ingredients, try Frontera Cocina. You won’t be disappointed.

Orlando, Florida (July 17, 2018) – Celebrity Chef Rick Bayless, known as Bravo TV’s Top Chef Master and host of the PBS series, “Mexico–One Plate at a Time,” is bringing his culinary expertise back to his restaurant Frontera Cocina at Disney Springs. Bayless, himself, will be preparing new menu items inspired by Mexico’s Riviera Maya in the Yucatán Peninsula. Lucky restaurant-goers and members of the news media will be the first to sample the brand new dishes on the night of the new menu roll-out.

This isn’t the first time Bayless has introduced new menu items in meet-and-greet events at his popular Orlando restaurant. In May, he released his Baja-inspired menu to the visitors of Disney Springs.

“I love returning to Frontera Cocina here at Disney Springs to meet travelers and have them try my new dishes. This has become a destination restaurant, a place where we can introduce regional Mexican food to many people from around the world. Being here in this kitchen and interacting with our guests is always a highlight of my trip to Orlando.”

Frontera Cocina was one of the first new restaurants to open at Disney Springs in 2016. Located within the Town Center, it features contemporary Mexican cuisine. The restaurant is Bayless’ first venture in the southeastern United States.

Bayless is a seven-time award winner of the nationally-recognized James Beard Awards for culinary excellence, including Midwest Chef of the Year, National Chef of the Year, and Humanitarian of the Year. He also created an award-winning line of salsas, cooking sauces and organic chips.

Our Favorite Food This Week: Easy Three Ingredient Dip
Location: Your house

Welcome to this week’s Favorite Food Friday where we share our favorite foods with our friends.  This week we are stepping away from the parks so I can share with you something that my sister introduced us to many years ago.  It’s easy and it’s addictive, so be careful.    At family gatherings we love to snack, one simple snack is this easy 3 ingredient dip, not sure what the real name of it is, but it’s easy and 3 ingredients so we will go with that.   The three things you will need are (1) 8 oz package of creme cheese (2) a 15 oz can of no bean chili (3) 1 cup shredded cheese (Colby-Jack is our preference).  Take the cream cheese and press it into a glass pie dish, using the back of a spoon works well for this.   Then spread the no bean chili on top.  Then add your shredded cheese.   Bake at 350 for around 20 minutes and wham bam you have an amazing dip.   We enjoy ours with Frito’s Scoops, but you can also use your favorite tortilla chip.   Cook this up for any gathering and it won’t last long, and if it does last it can easily be stored in the fridge and reheated in the microwave or oven.    Is your mouth watering yet………

Solo A Star Wars Story Cupcake

Our Favorite Food This Week: Solo – A Star Wars Story Cupcake
Location: Hollywood Studios, ABC Commissary
Price:  $5.99 DDP Snack Eligible

Welcome to this week’s Favorite Food Friday where we share our favorite foods with our friends.  This week we traveled over to Hollywood Studios to check out the Solo, A Star Wars Story cupcake to see if it will do better at the box office than the film did.   Overall it was delicious, the chocolate cake was moist and the cookie buttercream frosting had just the right amount of sweetness to keep you coming back for more.   The “rock” on it were similar to an M&M, but with a thicker candy coat.   If you are a cupcake fan you won’t be disappointed in this one.
