Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia: Wait, am I outside the park?

What attraction at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is entirely outside the park (outside the train tracks)???  Hmmm think hard.   Have you ever ridden the train and sat on the left side, don’t see much, do ya?    Except after you leave the New Fantasyland station… wait for it…..wait for it….. There it is, Space Mountain.   Don’t believe me, take a look at the Google Image Map Below.

Space Mountain Outside

The attraction went through many different design changes before the current layout was selected.   Originally it was supposed to be in the southern portion of Tomorrowland similar to Disneyland’s placement.  What ended up there?   You guessed it, the Carousel of Progress.   So now, to reach the attraction we travel through the star corridor which is actually an underground tunnel taking us under the train tracks and technically outside the park.

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia: Festival of the Lion King

Did You Know Today’s TIGGERIFIC TUESDAY TRIVIA on the Festival of the Lion King?

The Festival of the Lion King is moving!   We have a few construction pictures here.   With the news we thought we would give you some trivia on the attraction.

The Festival of the Lion King opened with the park on day 1 which makes it the longest running show at the parks.   For years it was an open air theater with no AC.   That’s right, no AC, it wasn’t enclosed until 2003.   The initial plan was for the show along with Camp Minnie Mickey to be temporary attractions until they understood the crowds that Animal Kingdom would attract and had the budget to finish off Beastly Kingdom.

The Animal Kingdom encourages recycling and this show is a great example.   The floats and puppets used in the show come from a parade at Disneyland.  As The Festival of the Lion King finds a new home, we await more information on the Avatar area that will take its place.  We hope to hear more in the upcoming D23 Expo.

And here is a trivia question:   How many people perform in this show on a daily basis?

A. 20
B. 30
C. 40
D. 50

Festival Of The Lion King 3

With 7 shows a day there are around 50 people that perform in the show on a daily basis.  Which makes D the correct answer 🙂   Be sure to take a look at all the great trivia on the Hop today.

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia: Grand Floridian

Did You Know Today’s TIGGERIFIC TUESDAY TRIVIA on the Grand Floridian

On Thursday we check into the Grand Floridian to celebrate our 15 year Wedding Anniversary.   So this week I thought I would offer up a couple interesting facts about the resort.   The resort opened in June of 1988 with the name of Grand Floridian Beach Resort.  Not a huge name change, but in the fall of 1997 the name was changed to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.   The resort features 867 rooms.

The Grand Floridian was modeled after many of the beach resorts built along Florida’s coast during the 19th and 20th century.   The resort stands today on land that was meant to be Disney’s Asian Resort.   The Asian Resort was planned during the 1960’s and was expected to open in 1974, it even appeared in advertising before the property opened in 1971.  Ever travel down Floridian Way?   Well you are actually traveling down a road that was originally called Asian Way.

As you walk into the 5 story lobby and see the grand beauty of this resort, pick your jaw up off the floor, then take a look at the two chandeliers.   How tall do you think these are?

A.  6 feet
B. 10 feet
C. 16 feet
D. 20 feet

These two chandeliers are 16 feet tall, so those of you who picked the tried and true method of “when in doubt pick C” are correct.   They are also 14 feet wide, contain 44 candelabras, and weigh in at one ton

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia: What do the PeopleMover and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster have in Common??

Did You Know Today’s TIGGERIFIC TUESDAY TRIVIA On what the PeopleMover and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster have in common??

If you guessed wait times, you are incorrect.   The PeopleMover is propelled by a Linear Induction Motor (LIM) which is the same system used to propel the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster to 60 MPH.   Though the PeopleMover never reaches a speed over 7 MPH, the linear motors use an electrical current to create an electromagnetic field.   The PeopleMover vehicles have magnets on them and the interaction with the magnetic fields create propulsion and move the vehicles along the track.  The system is great on the environment and also on repair costs as fewer parts break down due to friction.

This one made me think, hmm which way do some of the rides turn.   Do you know which way the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel turns?   Clockwise or Counter-Clockwise.   Think hard, or look ahead to our picture for a big hint.

Prince Charming Regal Carrousel

The answer is…. counter-clockwise.   The Astro Orbiter does a better job keeping time as it turns with the clock.
