Rate a Ride: Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Fastpass: Yes
Ride Duration: 4 minutes
Year Introduced: Jun 1999
Height Restriction:  None

Hop aboard a colorful honeypot and take a ride through the Hundred Acre Woods to visit all your favorite Winnie the Pooh characters.

You’ll hop like Tiger, sway in the wind with Rabbit, Roo and Owl, visit those scary Heffalumps and Woozles with Pooh, and float down a river with Piglet. This brightly animated ride is full of cheerful music, and your favorite scenes from Winnie the Pooh. Although this ride is geared for younger children, even adults will appreciate visiting one of our iconic characters from childhood.

Winnie the Pooh is another Fantasyland ride where the line can get pretty long pretty fast. The good news is that the line is interactive! In fact there’s so much fun in line that you’ll actually have a difficult time pulling your kids away from the interactive exhibits and onto the ride itself. Make sure to swipe away the dripping honey on the large screens to uncover one of your Hundred Acre friends!

Tip: If your child loves the Winnie The Pooh characters make sure to get a reservation at The Crystal Palace where you’ll enjoy an all you can eat buffet while visiting with Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and Tiger! Approximately $30-40 per person.

Rating Comment: This ride will bring out the smile.  Bounce with Tigger and ride down the stream created when the rain rain rain came down down down.

Rate a Ride: Peter Pan’s Flight

Fastpass: Yes
Ride Duration: 3 minutes
Year Introduced: Oct 1971
Height Restriction:  None

Peter Pan is one of Disney World’s oldest, yet most popular rides. And who can blame visitors for liking it; the ride is adorable! You’ll hop aboard your own “flying ship” which sits 2-3, then head over London and off to Neverland to visit pirates, Indians and mermaids! This super cute ride is a reminder of what childhood is all about…imagination!

So what’s the downside? The ridiculously long line, of course! This is another ride that fills up fast. Considering the actual ride isn’t very long, you might find the average hour wait a horrifying prospect.

Here at Disney Day by Day we encourage you to arrive at the park even before it opens. If you’re at the Magic Kingdom early and headed straight back to Fantasyland, I highly suggest hopping on Peter Pan first thing in the morning. If you’re too late and the line is already long, I suggest getting a fastpass, and while you’re waiting head to Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, It’s a Small World, Winnie the Pooh, or Mickey’s Philharmagic.

Warning! This ride is for all ages, but it is dark and if you’re like me, you’ll be nervous as you child hangs over the edge of your flying ship to get a better view. Don’t worry, you’re not nearly as high as it seems. So just wrap an arm tightly around your kid, sit back and think of a wonderful thought, any merry little thought!

Rating Comment: A great Disney classic that the entire family is sure to enjoy.   So grab hold of some pixie dust and enjoy the flight.

Rate a Ride: Mickey’s PhilharMagic

Fastpass: Yes
Ride Duration: 12 minutes
Year Introduced: Jan 2011
Height Restriction:  None

In our family, we’ve never been one for sitting and watching a show when we could be on a thrilling ride. So for many years we actually skipped Mickey’s PhilharMagic, a 4D movie featuring Donald Duck. Skipping this movie was certainly our loss! After hearing many positive comments about PhilharMagic, we decided to give it a try. It’s now on our “must do” list every time we visit the park.

Mickey’s PhilharMagic is a 12 minute movie featuring Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse and clips of musical numbers from a variety of Disney movies. What makes this show spectacular are the 4D special effects. You’ll be lightly sprayed with water, you’ll smell the delicious scent of cherry pie, and by wearing the special 3D glasses the characters will become so realistically dimensional that you’ll see many audience members reaching out to touch them. At the end of the movie don’t miss the Robotic Donald in the wall behind you. Children love this movie and adults seem to enjoy it as well.

If you do go, here are a couple items to brag about or mention to people in line so you look super smart.   The screen in PhilharMagic is the largest seamless projection screen in the world.   It is 150 feet long and 28 feet high.   The movie is also the largest cast of Disney characters to ever be featured in a single 3-D show.    How’s that for impressive.

As a precaution, it does get dark and loud in the theater so toddlers and babies might get scared. But the wait is rarely long and after being in the hot sun all day, sitting down in an air-conditioned theater is the perfect way to spend a few fun-filled moments.

Rating Comment: As we said, we did pass this one up for a couple years, but do really enjoy it.   Give it a chance on your next trip.

Rate a Ride: Prince Charming Regal Carrousel

Fastpass: No
Ride Duration: 2 minutes
Year Introduced: Oct 1971
Height Restriction:  None
Head to Fantasyland and the first thing you’ll spot is the amazingly beautiful Carrousel settled in the middle of the area; similar to the Carrousel you see in the Mary Poppins movie.

As you’re passing this Carrousel, you might think, why would I waste my time on that? There are a few reasons you might want to put that Carrousel on your to do list.

One: If you have younger children this ride will be a must. In fact for the first four years, this was our son’s favorite ride.

Two: There’s something magical about a Carrousel that makes you feel like a kid again. Perhaps it’s the music, the breeze ruffling your hair as you spin around and around, or maybe it’s just the idea of riding a horse. And yes, hop on board; as an adult you can ride too. Although try not to push kids out of the way in order to reach your favorite steed.

Three: And best of all, there is usually not much of a line for the Disney World Regal Carrousel.

Tips:

  • Make sure not to miss The Sword in the Stone which is located right next to the Carrousel. Kids love to try their hand at pulling the sword from the stone. And who knows… maybe you’ll free the sword and become Prince of the Day!
  • Feel free to skip the Carrousel and go back to it later as the line is rarely long; although, let’s face it, the Carrousel does have its long-line moments, as do all Disney rides.
  • Ride the Carrousel at night! The beautiful lights add a special magic to the ride!

Rating: 4/5

Rating Comment:  Even though this is a classic theme park attraction there is just something about riding the Carrousel at a Disney Park.   The line is usually short, so give this one a shot, you may just like it.
